Discussion Board

Discussion Boards are a central part of all online classes and are often used in a campus based course to enhance classroom discussion. Conversations which take place on the discussion board are asynchronous - not all participants are logged in at the same time. The instructor initiates the discussion by creating the topic or what is referred to as the Discussion Forum. Once created, students click the title of the forum to enter the discussion. Each new comment posted to the Discussion Board is called a thread. Anyone in the class may use the Reply or Quote button to respond to a new thread.

Note: The tool most changed in the most recent release of Blackboard is the Discussion Board. If you are new to Blackboard or you have not posted to the Discussion Board recently, click here and review the online tutorial to learn what changed. Use the browser back button to return to this page. We also suggest that you review the information included in the following QuikFAQs section of this guide to learn what has changed.
